The CAW’s Family Education Centre in Port Elgin maybe getting an addition on it.
The centre is looking at building a 10 million dollar hospitality training centre to address some of the educational needs of the aboriginal community and people with learning disabilities.
The Centre’s Director Dean Fowler says the training centre will train up to 200 assistant cooks and apprentice cooks as well as provide skills upgrading courses at evening classes.
Fowler says besides Bruce Power, this is a heavy hospitality area and this training centre will help train aboriginals and people with general learning disabilities in that field.
Fowler says the CAW has always helped out those in communities who are under privileged and don’t have the same opportunities that you or I might have.
Fowler says the training centre will provide the opportunity for these people to train in the region and continue to go to school and then find a job in the region without having to move away.
Fowler says they have to spoke to the province about funding and says they are putting together a business plan for their next meeting.
Fowler says they have support from surrounding communities and Huron Bruce MP Carol Mitchell for the training centre.
