Some provincial funding will ensure children and youth in Saugeen Shores stay fit.
Huron Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell came to the municipal offices yesterday to present a Communities in Action Fund grant of over 10 thousand dollars to the Town.
Manager of Recreation and Culture Jayne Jagelewski says the money will be used to hire a coordinator for their Community Action Network group.
She says it will empower them to encourage more people to be physically active in a beautiful surrounding.
Jagelewski say the CAN program is a branch from the PLAY initiative develop by the Grey Bruce Physical Activity Plan.
She says the purpose is to get kids back to playing simple games and activities.
She says kids nowadays don’t know what to do with a ball or know how to play King’s Crosses or hopscotch because they often sit in front of a television set or play video games.
Mitchell says the grant is a recognition of the Town stepping up to the plate in health promotion.
She says when the Liberals took power in 2003 they realize there could never be enough health care dollars without looking after the front end which is prevention.
