Fraudsters are becoming more crafty with the use of technology.
Owen Sound Police say the latest trick targets business people.
A potential victim company is contacted by telephone and the caller asks questions about their satisfaction with their web site service.
The caller then asks about company invoicing methods and tries to arrange to send an invoice for web services.
They identify themselves as Microconcepts.ca, and provide a toll free number answered by an answering machine calling the company Continental Web Solutions.
Owen Sound Police Inspector Vince Wurfel says an Owen Sound company was contacted, but they didn’t fall for the scam.
A similar attempt was made on a Barrie company.
Wurfel says the invoice amounts are reasonable enough to go undetected during regular business accounting.
He’s warning companies to be careful when dealing with invoices from unfamiliar companies, and contact local police if they suspect a fraud.
