A part of Flesherton’s history has been destroyed by fire.
The original Flesherton public school on Highway 10 was gutted by a blaze last night.
The Grey Highlands Fire Department responded to the first call shortly after 8 o’clock last night.
Fire Chief Dave Kell says both the Flesherton and Markdale departments responded and the fire was fully engulfed.
Kell says they could not save the vacant building.
Firefighters finally left the scene just after 4 o’clock this morning.
Kell says he hasn’t been able to determine the cause of the fire yet.
The vacant school building was privately owned.
Some residents in the Flesherton area had just started working on a plan to declare the old school a heritage building.
