It’s about the homeless.
That was the emotional and spirited message from Owen Sound resident Raymond Botten outside city hall yesterday.
Botten preached to the small crowd with a group of supports behind him asking for city residents to help fund a homeless shelter.
Botten screamed during the protest begging city residents to help do something for the homeless.
Botten in recent months has been collecting money to support the Victorious Living Centre’s proposed Emergency Shelter which is a planned first stage shelter on 2nd Avenue East.
Botten says he is passionate about this issue because he was once homeless.
His says the cause he has taken up has come at a price as he recently seperated from his wife and his house has been put up for sale.
This is not the first demonstration by Botten as he chained himself to a railing outside the Grey County building back in January protesting a lack of funding for affordable housing and the homeless.
Botten also sat for days outside the front of city hall this past winter in attempt to bring attention of the issue of homelessness in Owen Sound.
Mayor Ruth Lovell has said before its ludicrous to say the city does not care about the people in need.
She says its a county issue, adding the city is not the only place within the county with a homeless problem.
