Beach News has learned that Lambert Hall will not re-open in the fall.
Principal Jacalene Scott says it boiled down to low enrolment and lack of finances.
Scott says 47 students are affected and they will be moving on to other institutions in the area or to other private schools in Owen Sound.
She says five full time and four part time are also now looking for work.
Scott says some have landed other positions.
Scott says she had great support from the native population, with their children attending the school, but there was a lack of support from the community of Saugeen Shores at large.
She says it costs $350,000 to $400,000 a year to operate Lambert Hall.
Lambert Hall, located on Goderich Street in Port Elgin, was a non-denominational, co-educational elementary school for students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.
Their current school year ended earlier this month.
