19 year-old, Jody Van Dorp will be biking from coast to coast this summer to raise awareness about poverty-related issues across the globe.
Van Dorp is one of 211 riders registered to participate in what is likely to be the largest group of cyclists to ever bike across North America.
The 6 thousand km ride is called the “2008 Sea to Sea Bike Tour” and it is being organized by the Christian Reformed Church.
The tour will be split into three sections to give participants the option of doing only one part, however, Van Dorp will cycle the entire route.
Van Dorp’s sister biked across Canada 3 years ago with the same organization.
The overall fund-raising target for the tour is $1.5 million dollars – Van Dorp hopes to raise $10 thousand of that herself.
The “Sea to Sea Tour” starts today in Seattle and finishes in Jersey City on August 30th.
Bikers will cross the border into Ontario for 4 days in August.
