The Bluewater District School Board now has a petition on the books from concerned parents who don’t want to lose the rotary class system in Grades 7 and 8 this fall.
One of the concerned parents is Bibianne Bird of Saugeen Shores who reports the petition had 500 signatures on it in no time in Saugeen Shores and is now making the rounds in the Kincardine area.
Bird says the school board has received the petition and it has been sent to the Minister of Education Kathleen Wynne as well.
Parents do not want to see a change in the rotary class system in the senior grades of elementary school.
However, the board is determined to institute the change this fall where students will stay in one class with all subjects being taught by one teacher.
Bird says she senses the board hopes the parents will just burn out and “roll over and play dead,” on the issue.
She says she hopes principals of the schools affected will be able to administer their schools in such a way this fall that will satisfy the parents and the board.
Bird says though, it’s a pretty tall order.
