The executive director of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment or CAPE has a message for Saugeen Shores residents.
On Soundingboard recently Gideon Forman says give up those lawn and garden pesticides.
He’ll be telling a group attending his presentation tonight at 7 at St. Andrew’s Church in Southampton.
It’s a first in a series of lectures related to the environment that St. Andrew’s will sponor this year.
Forman says pesticides clearly threaten human health and affect the environment.
He says new science shows pesticides can be linked to cancers, neurological disease such as Parkinsons and to birth defects as well.
Forman says under those circumstances, the pending province-wide ban on pesticide use around the home is not a “trendy” thing nor is it scare-mongering.
He says CAPE is focussed on the lawn and garden pesticide use because he says, there is no countervailing health benefit.
On the other hand with the exemption of the ban for farmers, he calls that a safety issue involving our food and is much more complicated to deal with.
Forman is speaking at St. Andrew’s Church in Southampton tonight at seven, sponsored by the Green Team at the church.
It’s free to everyone.
