The board passed a motion yesterday to continue to support the negotiating committee, Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn, the management team and staff during the OPSEU Local 276 job action.
Board Chair Larry Kraemer says after a long and spirited discussion the board feels their position is still the same from last month’s board meeting.
Kraemer says the board also weclomes the OPSEU to the bargaining table and says negotiations can’t be conducted through the public.
Kraemer says OPSEU personnel are the ones who left the bargaining table and They’re waiting for them to return to the table to negotiate again.
Linda Owens, spokesperson for the OPSEU bargaining team says there is hope in reaction to Kraemer’s comments.
Owens says the health unit has said before they will go back to the bargaining table and will not budge but hopes after yesterday’s comments they will come to the table with an open mind.
The 27 employees have been on strike since May 1st to back demands for higher wages.
