If you’re sticking close to home this weekend, there’s entertainment at Saugeen First Nation and Grey Roots has something to keep you busy.
At Saugeen First Nation, there will be a concert tonight at 7 at the ampitheatre to celebrate Aboriginal Day.
Grey Roots is partnering with the Grey-Owen Sound Metis Council to celebrate as well.
June 21st has been celebrated in Canada as Aboriginal Day since 1996.
Heritage Interpretation Co-ordinator Petal Furness says today will be a day of ceremony, displays of modern and traditional crafts and music.
Also, the Metis exhibit “From Days Past” by Scott Carpenter will be open to the public from 10 am to 5 PM.
A Grand Entry will begin at 1 PM of the Metis Council, Elders and guests.
There will be hourly prize draws throughout the afternoon with Metis music performed by Rudy and Jean Couture, the David Dillon Blues Band and the RC and B Band in the Grey Roots Theatre.
Furness says in addition to the festivities, Grey Roots is presenting an Aboriginal Film Festival, starting at 10 am Saturday until 5 PM Sunday.
They will present the National Film Board’s “First Nations, the Circle Unbroken”.
It’s a series of 13 programs addressing issues such as Aboriginal perpectives on history, culture, and spirituality.
Regular admission applies to Aboriginal Day at Grey Roots, and the films are free with Admission.
