It’s official…. Strathcona Senior Public School in Owen Sound will be closing.
The Bluewater District School Board passed the recommendation from Owen Sound Accommodation Review Committee at their meeting yesterday.
The ARC submitted their decision to the Bluewater Board back in April.
Strathcona will officially close effective August 31, 2008.
The other 3 Owen Sound east side schools: Alexandra Community School, Bayview Public School and Sydenham School will reconfigure to be JK to Grade 8 schools.
The recommendation will also see the current site of the Alexandra Community School to be replaced with a brand new school subject to available funding.
Superintendent of Elementary Education Marnie Coke says through a collective agreement, the Board has a system set up for when a school closes that there is a transition for staff to go to other schools in the district.
Coke says the 12 teachers at Strathcona have all found a teaching position at another school site with 4 of them going to Alexandra Community School next year.
Coke adds the Bluewater’s plant department has begun the process to try and receive funding from the Ministry of Education to build a new school for Alexandra
