Construction is underway on a four-storey, 24-unit condominium in Southampton.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith joined representatives from Skyline Incorporated at the site of Chantry Place — on the Southeast corner of Albert Street (Highway 21) and Adelaide Street — yesterday for the official turning of the sod.
Skyline’s Director of Real Estate Development Martin Castellan says they had some success with another condo development nearby called Manchester West.
He says the time was right to build on that success adding this is the right environment for this type of development.
Castellan says the condos are geared towards “empty-nesters” and feels it is a great draw in Southampton whether it would be for seasonal or full-time residents.
One of the features of the condominium is a rooftop patio that will allow for a great view of the sunset over Lake Huron.
Castellan says they took a boom camera to the site and raised it 40 feet high to check what kind of view to expect.
He says the camera’s viewpoint showed the sunset just above the trees.
The condos will also have two commercial units for business, hardwood flooring, private balconies, and indoor parking.
It is expected to be ready for occupancy near the end of 2008.
