Heritage Georgian Bluffs will be making a presentation to Georgian Bluffs council tonight.
Mayor Alan Barfoot says the group is trying to designate the Mennonite Corners church as a heritage site.
Barfoot says council and staff do not think the building is structurally sound, or safe for residents.
But Heritage Georgian Bluffs chair John Harrison says heritage sites should not simply be determined by engineering reports.
He says there are a lot of other factors to take into consideration, including the significance of the building.
Harrison says the group has had some financial troubles in the past, but they will have the money to acquire the building, and get a heritage architect to conduct a feasibility study.
Mayor Barfoot says if the group has the money they can go ahead with the study, but he just doesn’t want to see this become a cost downloaded onto the taxpayers.
Barfoot says he’s interested to see just what the group’s plans are during tonight’s presentation.
