The Owen Sound BMX Park will close — temporarily.
City council has decided to close the park until a detailed report comes back to council on the design, liability, condition and costs to clean up the park.
Councillor Bill Twaddle says the park is a real embarrassment ot the city.
He says the park, which is located by the Bayshore Community Centre, has not been properly maintained — there are large rocks and weeds.
The city’s operations advisory committee had previously recommended that the existing site of the BMX Park, in its current condition, be closed or decommissioned.
Twaddle says council needs to make a decision whether to put resources into the park to clean it up and make it safe or whether to shut it down.
He says he wants to see the bike park fixed up and operated properly.
Twaddle says currently the park is a liability issue — its unsupervised, adding a high skill level is required in order to use the park.
