City Council has approved a new property standards workplan that will see bylaw officers out assessing properties across the city.
Councillor David Adair says this is a new approach to dealing with property standards.
Adair says the intent is not to be confrontational, but adds the city will go after land owners who refuse to improve their properties.
He says the bylaw officers will fill out a form listing the issues on the property that need attention.
Addair says the property owners will have seven days to inform the city how they will rectify the issues which could include repairs, painting or clean up of stairs, porches, fencing, windows, doors and brick work.
Adair says property standards is one area where the city receives a number of complaints.
Councillor Deb Haswell says the city is being proactive by looking at property standards and providing enforcement.
