World War 1 medals belonging to a soldier from Tara are being returned to the Village.
St. George resident Dave Thompson is an auto parts dealer who frequently shops on eBay for parts.
He also searches the popular website for war medals that can be repatriated.
Thompson spotted World War One medals that belonged to the late George Albert Potts of Tara.
Appearing on Soundingboard, Thompson says he contacted the local media in hopes that someone would come up and purchase the medals.
Two Tara residents — Tom Ruff and Linda Funston — picked up on that and pooled their money to purchase the medals for $246.
Ruff — also appearing on Soundingboard — hopes the medals can be displayed in the hall at the local Legion branch once they are brought back.
Ruff says his reason for the purchase was that he has family members who have served in the military and is also involved in Remberance Day services.
Thompson says there is another medal on eBay belonging to a soldier from Kincardine.
He says it belongs to William Fraser and has been in contact with the local media there in hopes of achieving the same result.
Thompson says he can be contacted at (519) 448-1967.
Last year, Thompson contacted former South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Carl Noble about a medal on eBay belonging to Wiarton resident Lloyd Irving Glover who was killed in World War 1.
Noble and the Town were able to purchase the medal and put it on display at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.
