A significant step towards healing.
So says Saugeen First Nation Chief Randall Kahgee, reacting to the apology of Prime Minister Stephen Harper for the abuse of natives in residential schools of the past.
Kahgee says it was a brave move but one that leaves a message.
He says the apology means Canada can no longer deny the role it played in the genocide of First Nation peoples.
Nevertheless he feels the move was a significant step and should assist greatly in the journey towards healing.
Kahgee says that will be up to the victims and families that suffered the impact of native children being shipped off to residential schools.
He says the scars are deep but with both sides willing to work, he can sense moving forward to better relations.
