Improvements look to be coming to the Owen Sound Mill Dam.
Grey Sauble Conservation Authority Director of Operations Doug Hill presented the recommendations from the environmental assessment on the Dam at yesterday’s authority meeting.
Hill says the assessment was done on the dam this spring and says the assessment was required under the Ontario Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act.
Hill says there are number of recommendations for work to be on the dam which have been prioritized on importance.
Hill says the first work to be done on the dam is repair to a crack on part of the concrete underground which has resulted in a leak.
Hill says the Conservation Authority has already budgeted for the work for this year which is expected to cost about $85,000.
Hill says the crack has also resulted in some voids under the dam and next year they hope to work on filling up those voids which is expected to cost about $90,000.
Hill says some of the other work that will be done to the dam in the future includes removing existing guardrails and replacing them with new ones and removal of trees and shrubs around the dam.
