The Mobilization March is into the home stretch.
Port Elgin’s Jeff Preston is now in Brockville getting ready to push onto his final destination — Ottawa.
Preston has been travelling by wheelchair across the province since May 5th, starting in London.
His message to each community he stops in is the need for accessible transportation for the physically challenged.
He says he’s been encouraged at most stops but some have been very disappointing, particularly the bigger centres.
Yesterday was the team’s biggest journey yet.
Preston said they dubbed it the “epic drive” at 74 kilometers in length.
He said the trek from Gananoque to Brockville took 8-hours to complete.
Preston says he was more exhausted than sore after the journey.
However, he’s looking forward to Sunday’s arrival in Ottawa where a police escort will meet him at the city limits and guide him to city hall for a public reception.
Preston also hopes to meet with federal government officials to tell his story as well.
Soundingboard will check in with Preston again tomorrow morning.
