A 2 day safety blitz by Owen Sound city police and Ministry of Transport officers netted a few surprises.
The blitz was done June 10th and June 11th.
Day one, focused on cabs in the city.
37 taxi cabs were checked… with six taken out of service for repairs.
Two cabs had their licence plates returned to the Ministry of Transport for more serious safety violations.
Day two focused on the safety of commercial vehicles.
One tow truck had safety issues and had it’s licence pulled.
A total of 32 commercial trucks of various sizes were inspected resulting 18 vehicles being taken out of service temporarily pending required repairs.
Nine vehicles had their licence plates removed and returned to the Ministry as being unfit.
MEANWHILE
the checks, an officer pulled over a Dodge pick-up truck.
It turned out to be stolen from Sudbury and 3 people from the Sault Ste. Marie area face numerous charges now, including possession of prohibited weapons.
