The Ontario government is getting ready to hand out 1.4 million Fun Passes to kids across the province.
Minister of Tourism Peter Fonseca was in Midland last week to announce that the Fun Pass program is running again this summer.
Fonseca says the Fun Pass is given to kids between the ages of 4 and 14 on the last day of school.
The pass gives the kids free admission to provincial attractions and their families can also get discounted rates to provincial parks.
Fonseca made the announcement from Huronia Historical Park and says that’s one of the places covered by the pass.
It will also get kids in free to attractions like Ontario Place, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Butterfly Conservatory, and Ontario Science Centre to name just a few.
Fonseca says the Fun Pass started out as a pilot program a few years ago in the GTA and it was so popular they’ve since expanded it province-wide.
They were only expecting 1% of the passes to be used, but they’re actually seeing rates of 3.3% and Fonseca says that’s a huge success.
Fonseca says the Fun Pass has 2 benefits – it increases business for Ontario tourism and it makes it easier for people to afford summer family activities.
This year’s Fun Pass is valid from July 1st to Labour Day.
