The Green Party in Bruce Grey Owen Sound have their man for when the next federal election is called.
A total of 166 ballots were casted with Dick Hibma coming out on top over Durham area raw milk farmer Michael Schmidt.
Hibma is the current Chair of the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority and last year was appointed a federal appointment to the Public Interest Advisory Group examining declining water levels of the Upper Great Lakes.
Hibma says he now takes the hopes of dreams of the green party supporters into the next election and says their hope is he gets elected, goes to Ottawa and makes a difference.
Hibma says he won’t take this responsibility lightly and is hoping at the end of the next election, people will say he was the right choice.
Hibma says they are many people who do not vote and it’s not about stealing votes from other parties but it’s engaging people who don’t vote.
Hibma says the message he needs to get across is every vote counts and he needs to restore that hope.
Randy Dryburgh is the CEO of the Bruce Grey Owen Sound Green Party and says in the short time he has known Hibma he is very impressed with him and knows his heart is in the right direction.
Dryburgh says Hibma believes the only solutions of the problems facing our riding are of the visionary leadership of the Green Party.
When the next federal election is called, Hibma says there is a distinct possibility history could be made in the Bruce Grey Owen Sound riding.
