Do you ever wonder if some people should be on the road?
A new testing program is available in Bruce and Grey Counties that will help determine just that.
The DriveABLE program is an intensive assessment of “medically at-risk patients.”
The program is offered by the Closing the Gap Healthcare Group.
Client Services Manager Jackie Bizzell says doctors must refer patients to the program.
She says it’s targeted for people with medical conditions like stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, or brain injuries that affect the mental abilities it takes to drive.
Bizzell says it’s an objective assessment, which provides a mental evaluation, an “in-class” testing portion as well as a practical road test.
The program was launched with a dinner with area physicians last night (THURS).
Bizzell says they’ll have a couple of keynote speakers, including the doctor who helped develop the assessment.
Bizzell says once they get running with the program, they’ll be able to provide at least two assessments per week.
It is not an OHIP funded assessment; it will cost participants 441 dollars.
