Volunteers across our region are being recognized for the hard work they do.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation handed out the Great Grant Awards in Walkerton yesterday to organizations that have made a difference in the Grey-Bruce community with funding they previously received from the foundation.
Foundation spokesperson Janet Passmore says the award also recognizes significant mileston contributions volunteers have made.
Mary Smith accepted the Grant Review Team Chair’s Award on behalf of the Cairn Committee at the Owen Sound Marine and Rail Museum.
Smith says it’s a priveledge to receive the award, and she feels the recognition encourages organizations to work together.
She says if different organizations have a concept, it helps them work together to achieve their vision.
The Owen Sound Order of Good Cheer was given the Sports and Recreation award for their ice rink in Harrison Park.
Tom Gillespie accepted on behalf of the Order, and he says it’s volunteers who make all the difference.
He says their volunteers do the work simply because they love to.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation hands out the awards in 16 different regions across the province.
