Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound PC MPP Bill Murdoch says he has no intention of holding poverty consultations in the region.
A high level provincial committee to commission MPP’s to hold sessions with community groups and other stakeholders on reducing poverty in Ontario.
Huron Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell is holding such a session later this month in Kincardine.
Anne Finlay Stewart, Vice Chair of SHARE — a community anti-poverty group in Grey Bruce — wants to know why similar sessions won’t be held in this region.
Murdoch tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the poverty consultations are a McGuinty initiative and he’s not part of the Liberal government.
He also says he doesn’t have the financial resources like Carol Mitchell to hold the sessions.
However SHARE officials say they’ve found free space to hold the consultations and will cover any incidental costs.
Murdoch says if SHARE wants to hold the meetings they should go ahead and schedule them.
He says if he’s available he’ll attend but he has no intention of the heading them up himself.
