Sticks and stones seem to be the center of a dispute between two Huron Township homeowners.
Zach Mujanovic and Harry Helfenstein both took their differences to Huron-Kinloss Council Monday night.
Helfenstein complained to Council that Mujanovic placed two large stones in front of an entrance that he uses to move his boat and trailer off his property and wants them removed.
But Mujanovic countered by saying the stones were put there to stabilize loose gravel from his property and that the access in question is actually on municipal land.
Mujanovic also complained that a hedge on Helfenstein’s property is encroaching more on to the road allowance than the stones.
Councillor Jim Hanna says this is a minor issue and the feud — which has been going on for 3 years — is starting to become petty.
Hanna says this first began when Helfenstein did not like the way the home on Mujanovic’s property was constructed and that it began to encroach on to his property.
Hanna says the stones were Mujanovic’s solution to the Township’s request to provide curbing on his roadway to prevent water from entering onto Helfenstein’s property.
He says the access that Helfenstien was using for his recreational vehicles is not an approved access but feels it isn’t doing anyone harm.
Hanna says it is unfortunate that these men can’t stop bickering with each other because they live on nice lots in a beautiful part of the Township.
He says they should stop and look around and think about other things.
Council has ordered staff to remove the stones and Mujanovic is threatening to take this matter to a higher authority though he wouldn’t say whether it would be the Ontario Municipal Board or the courts.
Hanna says Mujanovic has every right to do that adding anyone who feels they have been treated badly by Council should take that step.
