Brockton Council is leaving the Naggs Bridge replacement in the hands of Bruce County.
The county is looking at replacing the bridge and they’re just waiting on approval from the Saugeen Conservation Authority to do so.
Residents have concerns about the flood plain of the area – some say there are no plans in place to ensure the bridge will not be flooded over.
Some believe the county should replace the bridge on the 12th concession instead.
Brockton Councillor David Inglis says he has heard some of these complaints, but the municipality isn’t really in a position to do anything about it.
He says it’s a county decision and it’s up to the county to work with the residents on determining which bridge should be replaced.
However, he feels the partnership between the municipality and Bruce County has been very healthy on this issue.
The county bridge is located on a municipal road, and replacing the structure will cost 3.6 million dollars.
The county is covering three million of the cost — the municipality will only be responsible for raising the level of the road at the western approach to the bridge, to make it high enough to escape elevated water levels.
Inglis says the county has been keeping Brockton Council updated on correspondence with the conservation authority.
The county is also considering assuming ownership of the road after the bridge is replaced, and Inglis says that’s something else the municipality will have to make sure they’re very involved with if that change takes place.
