Kincardine’s Physicians Group is asking Huron-Kinloss to help them keep their hospital emergency room open.
But the Township Council last night refused their request for 75 hundred dollars to acquire a locum to fill any holes in the schedule.
Mayor Mitch Twolan says their budget constraints won’t allow them to give additional money to the physicians group.
Twolan says Huron-Kinloss has already contributed 35 thousand dollars for Kincardine doctor recruitment this year.
He says the amount represents a 7 percent increase from last year and adds that was a tough pill for many people to swallow.
Twolan says he hopes the refusal of their request won’t lead to the closure of the emergency room at the Kincardine Hospital.
Councillor Anne Eadie suggested that the South Bruce Grey Health Centre should be looking into the problem.
But Twolan says SBGHC President and CEO Paul Davies is doing his best to address the situation.
Twolan says if we can’t get doctors to keep hospital emergency rooms open then we are in trouble.
Twolan says the Township has recognized this problem and have done their share for doctor recruitment in Kincardine.
