The Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre Foundation needs your help.
The Foundation’s Spring Campaign is underway to equip one of Owen Sound’s operating rooms with permanent laparascopic surgery equipment.
Laparascopic surgery involves small incisions and doctors use a tiny camera to see inside the patient.
Foundation Executive Director Paul Weitendorf says currently laparascopic surgery equipment is wheeled from room to room on carts.
Weitendorf says over the past years laparascopic surgery has become mainstream and an operating room dedicated to the procedure would be an asset.
He says the new equipment would feature a very large screen for surgeons to view their work.
Weitendorf says the equipment would also link with other hospitals so doctors and specialists there can watch the surgeries live and provide input.
Overall, Weitendorf says laparascopic surgery is much better for patients, eliminating the need for large incisions and lengthy hospital stays.
The Foundation is aiming to raise 125 thousand dollars during its Spring Campaign.
Weitendorf says the entire cost of the project is closer to 700 thousand.
Letters will be sent to area homes asking for donations to the campaign.
