Green Party Candidate Shane Jolley has been charged with trespassing by Grey County OPP.
Jolley has confirmed with Beach News, that he’s been charged from an incident on May 4th.
Jolley says for the past 6 years, he and a few other Owen Sound residents have been a part of a citizen’s group to try and stop 2 bike theft rings.
He says these theft rings have led to about 100 bikes stolen — mostly from the West Side of the city.
Jolley says on the night in question, he was leaving his bicycle store to patrol the west side of the city, where bikes have previously been stolen.
Jolley says he noticed a young kid riding a dirt bike along 16th street west, which then turned onto Somer Street and took off between a couple of homes on Somer street.
Jolley thinks the young kid may have mistaken his car for a police car — he then pulled over and started to pursue on foot.
Jolley says he did not find the young child but heard a noise in a nearby backyard, he walked along the high fence to find out what was going on, but could not see anything.
Jolley says he then walked back to the front lawn and looked through a lit up living room window to see if the young kid would appear, which he did not.
Jolley believes the homeowners have nothing to do with the bike thefts.
Jolley says the police did show up a short time later, however not looking for the young kid but for him.
Jolley says he is not without blame here, adding he was not completely forthright with all of the information that night with police.
Jolley will meet with police today to further explain his side of the story.
He is to appear in Owen Sound court on June 26th.
