The Bluewater school board has honoured 11 school volunteers.
The Bluewater District School Board recently handed out their 2008 Awards of Excellence.
The awards acknowledge those who have made a significant contribution to the education system.
Owen Sound resident Colleen Purdon is the first ever district level award winner.
Purdon is the founding member of the Bluewater Education Foundation, which was established to ensure the Outdoor Education Centre near Oliphant would stay in public hands.
Purdon was also a driving force behind the construction of new facilities at the centre.
Purdon says its a great honour to receive this award.
However, she feels most of the credit should go to the other members of the Foundation who made the Outdoor Education Centre a reality.
Purdon says she’s heavily involved in the Bluewater education system.
She does a lot of work with students on various topics including violence against women, racism and discrimination.
10 other people were also honoured with Awards of Excellence by the school board for their volunteer work at the various Bluewater schools.
