Three brothers originally from Owen Sound are going to bicycle across Canada in memory of their father.
Mike, Adam, and Aaron Teeter are leaving Vancouver today to begin a two-month ride for ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
ALS is a neuro-degenerative disease that causes muscle abilities to break down, and eventually leads to paralysis.
Their father Steve Teeter died of ALS in 1994 at the age of 37.
Adam Teeter says when his dad was diagnosed, the Owen Sound community as well as their church community rallied around them with support.
He says they want others with ALS and their families to know that they are not alone.
The three brothers will spend June and July travelling across the country bringing that message to many stops along the way.
They will be in Owen Sound on July 12th, with an event planned for Kelso Beach.
The brothers will be raising money as well for ALS research.
Along the route, the Teeters are hoping that communities hold 5 kilometre Bike & Glide or Slide events where supporters can walk, run, bike or rollerblade to raise funds.
