Port Elgin native Jeff Preston has the ear of several MPP’s at Queen’s Park including the minister of Community and Social Services, Madeleine Meilleur.
The subject is access to efficient transporation for the physically challenged.
Preston is a little more than half way through his 47-journey across Ontario bringing the message of accessible transportation to the communities he visits.
On Soundingboard this morning, Preston says while at Queen’s Park he has talked to many MPP’s who have encouraged him to continue.
He says Community and Social Services minister Madeleine Meilleur has asked that he compile a report on what he’s seen.
Preston says he’s been told the minister fully intends to implement some of the ideas into upcoming legislation on transportation for those with physical disabilities.
He says some of his report will show that accessible transportation is very much possible and affordable.
Preston is making his way to Ottawa where he will arrive on June 15th.
He says at that time the march will be over but it’s just the beginning of the journey.
He plans to follow up in the communities he’s visited to make sure they are making the effort to improve their transportation networks.
Preston will next check in on Soundingboard on Tuesday, June 3rd during his visit to Cobourg during Disability Awareness Week.
