The 18 Mile River Bridge near Lucknow is now open.
The bridge on Bruce Road 86 opened for the first time in almost a year yesterday afternoon.
The bridge made headlines in November when support beams collapsed during a construction project and left six workers injured.
Bruce County Engineer Brian Knox says they have spent the last two weeks paving and waterproofing the bridge.
Knox says now that County Road 86 is open — they can begin work on Bruce Road 6 and 7 in Ripley.
Those two roads — along with Concession 2 — were used as detours to and from Highway 21 for the duration of the bridge repair.
The reconstruction of the bridge was originally to have been finished at the end of last September — but was delayed and then pushed back after the collapse.
The set back meant the county had to revisit the design of the bridge, and change it.
Knox says they still don’t know what caused the construction collapse, and they are still waiting for final reports from the Ministry of Labour investigation.
