The municipality of South Bruce Peninsula has a new fire chief on an interim basis.
Irv Quan from the Sauble Beach department was named by council on Monday.
He replaces Terry Hutchinson who was relieved of his duties several weeks ago.
Meanwhile, two members of a town firefighters committee met with council on Tuesday to see where they go from here.
Ken McManus from Sauble Beach and Rick Van Balkom of Wiarton say the meeting with council members was very positive.
McManus says he hopes this is the beginning of open dialogue between the two sides to decide the future of the fire halls in the municipality.
He says they suggested that an interim fire committee made up of some firefighters and council members be established to chart the future of the service in the area.
McManus says council members seemed open to the idea and will consider the proposal further.
He says he sensed both sides were on the same page to move the fire service in South Bruce Peninsula forward.
McManus says generally support from the community at large has been positive although there are some who are questioning the turnover of fire chiefs in the municipality over the past several years.
