One month to the day of formally launching (April 28th), Citizens for Bruce C is celebrating reaching its first goal.
The group has secured ten-thousand signatures to bring the first nuclear plant in a generation to Bruce County.
Doug Mullaly is the President of the Bruce Power Pensioners Association and a Co-Chair of the Citizens for Bruce C.
He says they will continue to secure signatures in the coming days, and release a formal document next week, about why Bruce C should be built in Bruce County; supported by the petition.
Right now, they are discussing as a group how to present that document to the government.
One option is through Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell.
Mullaly says they thought 10 thousand was an ambitious goal, but based on the number of signatures pouring in on a daily basis, they will exceed their goal.
The group’s quest is to tell the provincial government that Bruce County is the best place to build Ontarios next nuclear plant.
In its view, there are five significant considerations for the first new build.
The group believes Bruce County addresses all of them being; community support, site suitability, the ability to deliver new generation when needed, access to skilled trades and the ability to attract significant investment.
