Bruce Power has marked an important milestone in its Bruce New Build Environmental Assessment by releasing more than 18-months of technical studies.
Executive Assistant to Bruce Power President and CEO Duncan Hawthorne, James Scongack, says with the release a new standard for EA consultation has been established.
Scongack says over 4,000 pages of studies on the environmental impact of a new Bruce build is available to everyone.
He says the field work is done and now it’s time to explain to people what’s next.
They’ll do so with a series of open houses beginning June 16th in Tiverton, followed by meetings in Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Walkerton and Owen Sound.
Scongack says the key message is the new build proposal is moving forward very agressively.
The release of these documents will also allow Bruce Power to work with the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, through a protocol agreement signed last week, to ensure Aboriginal considerations are reflected in the EA.
Scongack says although no decision has been made on where in the province a new build might take place, their groundwork to this point, puts the Tiverton site in a favourable light in the eyes of decision-makers.
