A hot pursuit and firing guns – just another day’s work for Owen Sound police officers.
Around 11:30 yesterday morning, an officer in a patrol car tried to pull over a maroon Chrysler after it ran a red light at the 6th Street East and 7th Avenue intersection.
The driver refused to stop, and other officers in the area joined the chase.
Officers even laid down the spike belt to stop the reckless driver.
Deputy Chief Bill Sornberger says the vehicle instead sped up and drove up on the curb, along the boulevard and toward the officer.
There was also a person walking in the area, and Sornberger says the officer fired one shot at the vehicle in protection of himself and the pedestrian.
7th Avenue East was closed between 3rd and 4th streets for several hours yesterday afternoon while police investigated the shot fired.
Sornberger says nobody was hurt and there was no damage to police or civilian vehicles, however the driver got away.
Sornberger says they’re still looking for the maroon Chrysler minivan, but no licence plate is available.
He urges anyone with information about the incident to contact city police.
