More than 200 graduating High School Students in Grey Bruce will be getting some valuable information and skills on how to land that first job.
The “First Time Full Time” conference is taking place at the CAW centre in Port Elgin this Thursday, May 22nd.
It is designed for students searching for their first job and thirteen secondary school in Grey Buce are taking part.
Susan Seifert is the Program Director of Community and Employment services and says students have the opportunity to take part in one full day or two half day training courses.
These courses will provide the students with specific skills and certificates that employers have requested in such areas as forklift, customer service, fall protection and workplace safety.
Seifert says getting these certifications gives the students a bit of a head start when setting out on their job search.
She says another aspect of this conference is to highlight and profile local opportunities and encourage young people to remain and work in their home communities.
Some of the partners involved in this conference are both school boards, Bruce Power, Bruce Community futures and the Bruce Grey Huron Perth Training Board.
