Renovations to the Owen Sound police building are coming in over budget.
The total cost of the project has come in at 5.6 million dollars — up from the original budget of just under 5 million dollars.
To-date, 3.1 million dollars has already been spent on phase one and two of the renovations.
The estimated cost of phase two is 2.4 million dollars.
McManaman says in order to cut costs, phase two has been reduced by 390 thousand dollars and the police services reserves will fund 200 thousand dollars towards the project.
Staff have also applied for funding to offset some of the increased costs.
There has been an application made for 50 thousand dollars to go towards the installation of an elevator.
Staff will also be submitting an application to the province for 100 thousand dollars, in the hopes that the building qualifies under the Green Building initiatives, due to energy efficiency improvements.
McManaman says the renovations are needed since the police building does not meet standards.
The first phase of renovations included the construction of a new cell block and asbestos removal.
The second phase deals with renovations to the first and second floors of the building — including new locker and shower rooms for the police officers.
