Many school boards across the province are looking at banning plastic bottles of water.
Only 38 percent of the respondents to our recent Internet news survey feel water bottles should be taken out of schools.
The Waterloo Region District School Board has banned water bottles due to environmental concerns, and now other school boards are looking at the issue.
A few of our listeners feel tap water is of high quality, adding bottled water contributes to the problem of unnecessary garbage.
One respondent says they’ve purchased stainless steel water bottles for their children to take to school.
Others say school boards can set a good example of environmental responsibility if they ban the sale of plastic water bottles immediately.
The other 62 percent of the respondents feel water is a healthy drink and should be encouraged even if its in plastic bottles.
The benefits of nutrition and drinking healthy liquids far outweighs the harm the recycled bottles may have on the environment.
Others are concerned the students will only have water fountains as a source of water.
