The Victoria Day weekend means fireworks…. and the Ontario Fire Marshalls office has some safety tips to keep in mind.
Off the top, Program Specialist Ryan Betts says you should go to a fireworks display put on in your municipality rather than lighting off rockets in your own yard.
If you still want to have your own fireworks on Monday, Betts says read and follow the label directions carefully.
Set off the fireworks well away from buildings, trees and dry grass.
Always have a water hose or pail of water nearby.
Keep sparklers away from children as they burn extremely hot and can ignite clothing, result in burns and can even cause blindness.
Anyone wanting to buy fireworks must be 18 years of age or older.
In the city of Owen Sound, fireworks are allowed to be set off on Victoria Day Canada Day, Civic Holiday and on Labour day.
