Northern Bruce Peninsula Council hopes to encourage more recycling.
Council is now making blue boxes and composters available to residents through the municipality.
However, they still will not be providing curbside pickup.
Mayor Milt McIver says they’re doing this promotion in hopes to get more people thinking about recycling.
He says when you think of the blue box, you associate it with recycling, and he hopes this will encourage more residents to recycle.
McIver says the town is only diverting 18% of their waste, and he’s hoping through this initiative, numbers will at least double.
Although McIver is adament they will not implement curbside pickup for recycling, it is something that could be considered in the future.
He says they will assess the program in about a year, and if they haven’t met their target, the municipality will have to consider other ways to increase diversion.
