With the increase in development surrounding the Kincardine airport, recommendations are being suggested to protect its viability.
Kincardine Council received an information report from Robert Ayres and Don Jones of the Airport Governance Committee at Wednesday night’s Corporate Services meeting.
The report is part of establishing an overall business plan for the airport.
Ayres says the report maps out the area surrounding the airport and the procedures that are followed for incoming aircraft.
He says the report tries to identify the height restrictions of area development whether it would be towers, wind turbines, or antennas in order to protect aircraft that approaches the airport.
Ayres says if nothing is done to improve the conditions, the area restricted for aircraft within the vicinity of the airport will be quite extensive.
He says they are looking at upgrading some of the radar and other aircraft monitoring equipment at the airport.
Ayres says they don’t want to restrict further development around the airport but they also don’t want to see access to the airport restricted.
He says right now anyone can build something there and no current provincial or municipal legislation that can stop it.
