A major renovation project at Lucknow Central Public School is undergoing some significant changes.
Manager of Plant Services with the Blulewater District School Board, Mike Booth says the plan to demolish 4,000 square feet of the building has itself been junked.
Booth says it would be cheaper to modernize the section that houses the school administration office and boiler room.
Booth says tearing down the one section and re-routing underground servicing would have pushed the project’s price-tag to an unacceptably high level.
Booth says the renovation is budgeted at 2.5-million dollars, and the demolition would have hiked the final cost to around 3-million.
Booth says now, the Lucknow Central building will remain largely unchanged, at least from the outside.
He says the Board, school administration and the contractor have agreed to make minor changes in what the 4,000 square-foot section will be used for.
A new bus loop, parking lot and roof are part of the renovation at Lucknow Central.
The renovation project is expected to be finished in time for the new school year in September.
