The next Habitat for Humanity build will be in Wiarton.
The Director of Affiliate Operations for the group, Lucy Gower says they are planning on building, two semi-detached units in the summer of 2009.
On Soundingboard yesterday Gower says anyone interested in taking part or indeed, of applying for the homes, should attend at general meeting in Wiarton tonight, 7pm at the Wiarton Arena.
Gower says they’re looking for families who meet the qualifications which include a gross income of $38,000 annually, are able to make monthly mortgage payments and are willing to give 500 “sweat equity” hours to help build their own home.
Gower says in the past 20-years, 20 homes have been built by Habitat for Humanity in Bruce and Grey counties.
World-wide, some 250,000 homes have been constructed or about one every 21 minutes.
Just last year Habitat completed a 6-unit townhouse development in Owen Sound.
There is no build planned for this year.
The two builds in Wiarton next year will provide four one-thousand-square-foot homes.
Two will be on Dawson Street and two others on Watson Street in Wiarton.
