Grey Bruce and Simcoe County farmers not happy with proposed new Ontario Animal protection legislation.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound Conservative MPP Bill Murdoch claims under the law, authorities could end up charging farmers for routine activities like castrating animals.
While the governing Liberals However say say farmers will be largely exempt from the law.
Murdoch doesn’t buy that claim and fears it will land farmers in jail for causing “distress” to an animal.
He says there are lots of activities that occur on the farm that can put stress on an animal like castration or when horns have to be taken off an animal.
Murdoch says these are normal agricultural practices and do not constitute animal cruelty.
He says there are no details surrounding just what regulations will be contained in the legislation, that will come after the Legislature passes the bill.
Murdoch says he just does not trust the government and no one has any idea just what rules and regulations will eventually end up as law.
