Local Conservative MP Larry Miller says farmers don’t have to apologize for the high cost of food.
He says for too long they have been suffering through low prices, and now its good to see them finally getting a good return on their investments.
Miller admits that the beef and hog producers are going through some tough times because of low prices, but its good to see the grain and crop producers finally making some money.
He says this comes after they suffered through a decade of low prices and people should not begrudge them that.
Miller predicts that the record high prices being paid now for grain and corn are not an anomaly and are here to stay.
He says despite the high cost of food in some parts of the world, Canadians are still getting a bargain as far as the cost of the food they put on the table is concerned.
Miller also takes exception to the argument that grain and corn being diverted to produce ethanol is one of the reason for soaring food prices.
He says the real reason for the price spike are increased pressures from Countries like China and India for more and more of the worlds food resources and energy.
