CAO John deRosenroll announced at Wednesday night’s Council meeting that the Municipality closed the sale of a section of land on the east side of Highway 21 south of Sobey’s.
He says the numbered developer exercised its option on the land and paid the municipality 547 thousand dollars.
deRosenroll says the municipality usually sells these types of land “as is” — meaning no roads or servicing — and the developer will be responsible for putting in the infrastructure and bringing them up to municipal and provincial standards.
The sale may just be the beginning.
deRosenroll says they have been approached by at least four other developers who are interested in setting up stores around the Canadian Tire and Sobey’s outlets.
He credits Council’s work on establishing the Durham Street extension to Highway 9 for generating the interest.
deRosenroll would not say who will be coming in to set up shop on the lots.
He would only say that developers may reveal the nature of the business when they come to council to address site plan control in August.
